ABENA NTIM-ADDAE
Abena Ntim-Addae, M.A., LPC, NCC (she/her)
Psychotherapist
Abena strongly believes in the importance of rapport-building in therapy and the therapeutic relationship being one in which there is warmth, compassion, and lack of judgment. She uses an eclectic theoretical orientation to ensure that the client’s specific needs are met. Examples of approaches that Abena uses are CBT, TF-CBT, person-centered, and narrative therapy.
Abena’s identity as a West African woman has shaped her prioritization of multicultural competence in her work. It has played a significant role in her passion for counseling all people, especially individuals of marginalized identities and those who come from cultures in which mental health care is highly stigmatized and not embraced. It is her goal to foster a safe and warm space with clients in which they feel understood, comfortable, and accepted for who they are.
Abena has worked with several different populations, culturally and across the lifespan. She has extensive experience with working with children and adults experiencing anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues, trauma, and disordered eating. She additionally has experience counseling child/adolescent immigrants and refugees from Central and South America, Africa, Europe, and Asia dealing with cultural transitions and immigration trauma.
