Journaling & Reflection Workshop: Celebrating Black History Month

Community Event Description

Black History Month (February 1st - February 28th) is a month-long celebration of Black history, culture, resilience, and achievement. While we honor and uplift Black communities throughout the year, February gives us a dedicated time to reflect on the profound contributions Black Americans and the global African diaspora have made to the cultural, political, intellectual, and social fabric of the United States. From trailblazing advocacy and artistic innovation to enduring traditions and community leadership, Black History Month offers an opportunity to deepen our understanding and appreciation of these legacies.

The 2026 theme for Black History Month, “A Century of Black History Commemorations,” marks 100 years since Dr. Carter G. Woodson and the founders of the Association for the Study of African American Life and History launched what would become Black History Month. This theme honors the long history of commemorating Black life, struggle, and triumph- and highlights the transformative impact these observances have had in shaping how we see ourselves, one another, and the shared history of this nation. It encourages us to remember the resilience of those who came before us, celebrate the richness of Black culture, and commit to a future rooted in justice, inclusion, and collective memory.

In honor of Black History Month 2026, Emerge Psychology Group is partnering with Blacks of Are.na to offer a Journaling & Reflection Workshop led by Chicago-based writer and co-founder of Jupiter Magazine, Camille Bacon at Monday Coffee & Starling by Duo. This free interactive event invites participants to engage in meaningful reflection on personal and collective histories in a space that centers Black experiences.
